Uses
People use tomato for cancer prevention, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, osteoarthritis, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses. Don't confuse tomato with lycopene, the antioxidant found in tomatoes.
Soil Nutrient Requirements
The nutrient requirement for hybrids is 120:80:80 kg of NPK per ha. 75 % of P (60 kg P which comes to 375 kg of superphosphate) is applied as basal. The remaining quantity of 120:20:80 kg of NPK per ha is applied through fertigation. Every day irrigation should be given for one hour.
Sowing Method
Sowing should be done thinly in lines spaced at 10-15 cm distance. Seeds are sown at a depth of 2-3 cm and covered with a fine layer of soil followed by light watering by water can. The beds should then be covered with dry straw or grass or sugarcane leaves to maintain required temperature and moisture.

Care Instructions
Tomatoes require 1 to 2 inches of water per week. To encourage a healthy root system, water infrequently but deeply, rather than daily and lightly. Fertilize plants every 4 to 6 weeks throughout the growing season to keep them consistently fed and able to produce juicy tomatoes all summer.
Other Features
It also contains carotenes, such as lycopene (which gives the fruit its predominantly red colour) and beta-Carotene (which gives the fruit its orange colour). Modern tomato cultivars produce fruits that contain up to 3% sugar of fresh fruit weight. It also contains tomatine, an alkaloid with fungicidal properties.
